Dental Implants in Henderson, NV: The Complete Patient Guide
8 min read · Reviewed by Dr. Farshad Athari, DDS
If you're missing a tooth — or several — you've probably run into the same three questions: will an implant actually work for me, how long does it take, and what does it cost? This guide walks through each one the way we'd explain it in the consultation room at our Henderson office, so you can arrive already knowing the vocabulary and the trade-offs.
What a dental implant actually is
A dental implant is a small titanium post that takes the place of a missing tooth's root. It's placed into the jawbone, and over a few months the bone grows around it and locks it in place — a process called osseointegration. Once it's stable, a custom ceramic crown is attached on top, colour-matched to your other teeth. The result looks and functions like a natural tooth, and it doesn't rely on the neighbouring teeth for support the way a bridge does.
Implants can replace a single tooth, several teeth with an implant-supported bridge, or a full arch. For a full upper or lower set, a small number of implants can carry a complete fixed set of teeth — that's the approach behind same-day full-arch treatment, covered in more detail below.
Are you a candidate?
Most adults in reasonable general health are candidates. The two things we look at most closely are bone volume and gum health:
- Bone: an implant needs enough bone to anchor into. If a tooth has been missing for a while, the bone that used to support it may have shrunk. A bone graft can rebuild the site — it adds a step, not a roadblock.
- Gums: active gum disease is treated first so the implant heals into a healthy foundation.
- Health conditions: uncontrolled diabetes, heavy smoking, and some medications can slow healing. None of these is an automatic disqualifier; they're things we plan around.
The only way to know for certain is a 3D scan and an exam. We'll give you a straight answer — including if we think a different option fits you better.
The timeline, step by step
- Consultation and 3D imaging: we measure bone, review your health history, and map the plan.
- Any preparatory work: extractions, bone grafting, or gum treatment if needed. Grafting adds roughly 3–4 months of healing before the implant goes in.
- Implant placement: a single-visit procedure done under local anaesthesia.
- Healing: 3–6 months for the implant to integrate with the bone.
- Final crown: an impression is taken and the permanent tooth is fitted.
For a single implant with no prep work, plan on about four to six months start to finish. Full-arch cases follow a different path — see the same-day article linked below.
What affects the price
There's no honest one-size answer, because the work varies a lot from person to person. The factors that move the number are the count of implants, whether you need grafting or extractions first, the type of restoration (single crown vs. implant bridge vs. full arch), and imaging. Many PPO dental plans contribute toward implant treatment, and we verify your benefits before you commit to anything.
What we can promise is a written treatment plan with the full cost in writing before treatment begins, and flexible payment plans for the balance. We break the full cost question down further in the dedicated article below.
Recovery and aftercare
Most people take an over-the-counter pain reliever for a day or two and are back to normal routines quickly. You care for an implant exactly like a natural tooth — brush, floss, and keep your regular checkups. With good hygiene and routine follow-up, implants are built to last many years.
Choosing where to have it done
Implant treatment spans surgery and restoration. It helps to have a dentist who does both, so the crown is designed around where the implant actually sits rather than the other way round. Ask how many implants the dentist places, whether they use 3D planning, and what the follow-up looks like.
